Rex Energy to deliver new affordable power solution to 1.5 million households
Data shows that only 36% per cent of urban Tanzanians have access to electricity with only 3 per cent of rural people having access to electricity.
Various challenges prevent rural people in Tanzania from accessing efficient sources of energy or technologies. As a result, the majority of people in these areas use kerosene and firewood for lighting.
The launch of 3G+SHS also provides solutions to the issue of affordability that has deprived the majority of off grid population of the benefits that come with electricity. A payment model that allows the customers to pay a deposit upfront and the balance over a period of 12 months will reduce the initial capital investment by the customer.
“This is a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) model where the customer owns the solar system after he/she has paid off the balance. The product is also tailor made to meet the needs of different segments of the rural and even urban markets as it comes in different sizes in terms of capacity, ranging from lighting and phone charging only to those that power any standard appliances such as TV; fan; laptops etc.” Kibhisa says
Commenting on the timing of the launch Rex Energy MD Mr Francis Kibhisa said “Rex Energy has taken it upon itself to complement Government efforts to bring power to remote, off-grid and other markets facing unreliable power supply. The launch could not have come at a better time than now.
It is a solid and immediate response to the call by the Government of Tanzania through its Electricity Master Plan to provide electricity to the majority of the rural population by 2030. Rex Energy plans to deliver 3G+ SHS power solution to about 1.5 million household by 2020,” Rex Energy MD said.
